Girls Tryouts Day 1, 7/31/2023

Top 6 finishers, “Kick for Distance”, in order: Faythe, Laney, Jenna, Cali, Emily, Jylian.

Top 6 finishers “Throw for Distance”, not in any particular order: Faythe, Jenna, Cali, Jylian, Harper, Aubrey.

Top 6 finishers “Illinois Agility Test”, average of both times, in order: Cali, Macy, Ada, Harper, Kaelee, Ella. The following ladies missed the top 6 by mere fractions of a second. (Could possibly attribute this to inefficiencies in the timer operator – me.) Laney missed by 0.03 seconds, Liv missed by 0.05, and Aubrey, Lola and Faythe all missed by 0.08.

Top 6 finishers “Beep Test”: Coach Taylor has that info and my phone is dead right now so I can’t call him. I know Ella, Macy, Lola, and Laney were very strong but that’s all I remember. I’ll post those results tomorrow.

Good to see some players we haven’t seen in a while! The “Indian Run” drill went well; it’s not easy keeping that 80 lb bag moving overhead without dropping it. Coach Taylor was in attendance.

I am very happy with the progress the girls are making. We started them on June 5th with 8 sets of 20 yd sprints with 30 second rest periods between sprints. That was followed by 6 sets of 40 yd sprints with 45 seconds of rest. Today they blew through 20 sets of 20 yd sprints with only 20 seconds of rest, followed by 10 sets of 40 yd sprints with just 30 seconds of rest. And then they had enough energy to push my car around the west end parking lot – not an easy task! Coaches Bell and Taylor were in attendance.

  5. Reactive “Chaos” Drill: Shot on goal upon signal from coach
  6. Burpee EMOM 9-6-3, 4 rounds
  7. Agility Drills: Repeat from other direction
  8. Bleacher Run: 10 minutes
  9. Yoga: Hip Mobility

Low numbers but solid effort. Coach Bell was in attendance.

Girls Summer S&C Day 17, Week 6 of 8

  2. Trail Run: from Silver Lake in Side Cut Park to Orleans Park in Perrysburg and back.

Seven girls plus Coach Taylor in attendance. The girls had trouble following my directions so they ran a little farther than I had planned. It should have been 4.1 miles, but they made it closer to 4.5. We did the trail first to make sure we got it in before the bad weather hit. In the end the bad weather never hit but I canceled the hill runs anyway because of the amount of work the girls had done the previous day.

Good effort and good numbers after a week layoff. Due to a scheduling conflict for the month of July we don’t have access to the turf until 7:00. We used the track infield for items 1-6 then moved to the turf for items 7 & 8. Coaches Bell and Taylor were in attendance

Next event – Wednesday, July 12 – will take place at the sledding hill at Silver Lake in Side Cut Metropark.

Girls Summer S&C Day 6, Week 2 of 8

  1. Dynamic Warmup
  2. Agility Drills: Illinois Agility Drill, Pro Agility Drill, X Drill, L Drill, W Drill. Once each direction, once carrying a slosh tube.
  3. Grove Hill Runs – x6
  4. Lifted – Back Squat, Power Clean & Push Press, 3 sets of 3 reps each.
  5. Yoga – Balance

Good session. 6 girls plus Coach Taylor in attendance. I left Coach with instructions/comments/suggestions in advance of my two-week vacation. I also LOANED him my Yoga book.

Girls Summer S&C Day 5, Week 2 of 8

  1. Dynamic Warmup
  2. Tempo Runs – 75% speed, 40 yds out, walk back, repeat for 10 minutes
  3. Road Course
  4. Sled Drags – backward, lateral left, lateral right
  5. Lifted – Bench Press & Trap Bar Dead Lift
  6. Yoga – spinal strength emphasis

Good session but low census – only 6 girls. Coach Taylor was in attendance.

  2. Lifted – Back Squat and Power Clean / Push Press
  3. Sprint 10 x 20 yds
  4. Sprint 8 x 40 yds
  5. Small-Sided Games (quite a few of them)
  6. Field Snake w/ ball
  7. Yoga – I cut it short. Short, like my patience.
